HT exam tomorrow Feb. 28th, 2007 @ 11:11 pm
So I have a heat and mass transfer exam tomorrow but I really don't feel like studying. I'll probably go through the homework problem solutions that Dr. Ku posted for a few hours before the exam. I don't know why, but I always have a hard time finding the motivation to study.

I spend so much of every day on a computer and I really don't mind. I've got a website and two servers that I keep track of for work, I run my church's website, and I've got more than enough computers of my own to keep me busy for a looong time. Having used windows and linux as servers, I'm definitely prepared to say that Linux is wayyyy ahead of windows. Anyone who's ever used it as a server knows exactly what I'm talking about. I've got it to the point where it almost takes care of itself through a whole bunch of handy scripts and scheduled jobs. Plus, the uptime itself is amazing compared to Windows.

Well, I suppose that I should quit avoiding the studying I should be doing...

I got slapped Dec. 30th, 2006 @ 10:50 pm
I got slapped yesterday... and no, I'm not joking. )
I went to a youth group party yesterday, and loved it. We did a white elephant gift exchange, hung out, ate pizza, and played Imagine-Iff. I lost Imagine-Iff (a game where your knowledge of the members of the group is key) to a girl that had just met us. I made the mistake of answering correctly, instead of answering like I expected everyone else to answer. By "correctly" I mean in the way that I believed the question should be answered. To give you some indication of what I mean, I mean that I was the only person who answered the question about me with my answer. Everyone else chose the one that least described me. Apparently if I were a musical instrument I'd be an organ. Yes. An organ. Wha?.... Anywho, when I was attempting to leave, the slappage occurred. Ouch.

I started my novel over break. I've been working on detailing the plot for three years now, and I think I've finally had the nerve to start the engine on this bad boy. I've roughly hashed out 24 hours of "story time" and it's taken me something like 20 single-spaced pages with size 10 font. Wow. It's alright, I feel the story is coming along nicely. The section that I wrote will probably be about 25 pages after I flesh out the descriptions with more detail. I don't want to get too bogged down with detail when I'm trying to get an idea out, you know? The story will probably just be for my friends to read, but if they (and I) feel that it's halfway decent, I'll try to get it published. I don't know of many people who have read more than I have. I'd like to think that makes me a decent writer. Stephen King says that the first step to being a great writer is to be a better reader. I tend to agree. I know that my writing is not that polished, and I'm holding a lot of my personality back, so it seems to be somewhat... dry. I'm confident that after I get a little further my confidence will be bolstered and I'll kick some butt in the personality department. Then I'll go back and fix the beginning.

I stumbled onto this lady's site today, and while I generally find her to be very vulgar, some of her writing was somewhat refreshing. She has a post on two phrases that are destroying American culture which is well worth reading, and another on fighting. Both are fairly good reads, and they both got me chuckling. I'll also remember to stab and twist.

Right before I left for South Carolina to visit my family over break, I ran the sound for my church choir's Christmas Cantata. Mr. Walker had a solo in the piece which he sang very well. For the purposes of this story, I'll remind you that Mr. Walker is the man I respect nearly as much as my father. Fast forward to Christmas break. I'm sitting in a strange church in a strange town with my family. My dad is a member of a choir. All of a sudden, I hear the SAME cantata being sung and my dad is singing the same solo that Mr. Walker sang. God is in the details, and I'm more convinced of that every day.

What is it about livejournal... Dec. 16th, 2006 @ 09:57 pm
I just realized the other day that it's been six months since I saw my sister. I always knew that it had been a long time, but when I actually described it quantitatively to someone the other day I was a little surprised at the number myself. For those of you who don't know, my family moved down to South Carolina in June. My dad had a better opportunity down there and they paid for him to relocate and everything. I'm flying down there after my exam on Tuesday, which is exciting in and of itself since I love flying.

Independence Day is such a great movie. I just finished watching it for the first time in a few years. Apparently there was an alternative shoot they were going to do, at the end the guy was going to show up in his biplane and fly into the core to blow it up. I'm glad they changed it, that would have been a little too predictable and hokey.

Yesterday was a pretty cool day, Jim and I had the warehouse day at the property office. Afterward we met up with some of the WSU Grounds dept guys and we had a barbecue. There's a lot more to WSU than I would have thought, and it's cool to be one of the behind the scenes guys. After that, Liz visited between her volunteer work and going to class. Jim, Liz and I watched Just Friends. That's such a hilarious movie, and I'd forgotten exactly how funny it was.

After that Liz wanted to watch the last episode of Big Love. At first I thought it would be a pretty weird show since it's about some Mormons in Utah, and the guy's a polygamist.. but I was actually pleasantly surprised by the show. It is an interesting view of what being a polygamist would be like, especially because it's illegal so they have to hide their religion. It's cool to me that Christianity used to be that way, people hiding their faith becuase they were afraid of persecution. Now Christianity is the norm (which isn't exactly a GREAT thing, since there's nothing "normal" about being a Christian)

After Liz went to class, Jim and I settled down to watch even more television. I didn't mind watching so much because I'd been so busy this past week that I hadn't had any time to REALLY relax. We watched Firewall which was good, but it wasn't exactly what I expected. They show Harrison Ford type out like four lines of code to show how awesome of a programmer he is and then they move on to whatever else. Come on, somebody make a realistic movie about hacking! (Hackers was a joke...)

After Liz finished class she came back over for a while and we all went out to Cold Stone. She was staying over instead of going back home because we had a few people over last night for a game/movie night. It was pretty fun, but people were coming and going for pretty much the whole time, so it was like a casual hang out night. Not that it's a problem, it would have just been fun to play some of the games or whatever as a big group.

I don't have to work today so I've just been chillin, I woke up at 11 which is extremely late for me. It's ok though, I was up till about 3 last night hanging out.

» Dusting it off...
Wow, I actually have to dust this thing off it's been so long since I last posted. I don't feel like checking, but it was probably in January or something ridiculous like that. Life has been interesting. I just wanted to inform everyone that summer classes are NOT the thing to do. If you DO decide to take summer classes..... take ONE. ONLY one. Taking two while working and having a life is nearly impossible. That is all, you may commence living your lives.
» Smart? No. Insignificant drivel.
I don't know why this bothers me, but it does. Why do people write looong entries where they bludgeon a topic and every possible subtopic to it in their livejournal? I know why, and that irritates me even more. They want to look "smart". As if your ability to write a long and coherent opinion on something makes you "smart". RIGHT, I really don't think so.
IMHO, it's better to write a short and concise summary of your opinion with a few supporting facts or arguments. I thoroughly enjoy visiting Maddox's page (http://maddox.xmission.com) because he does just that. The guy is hilarious and he's definitely more intelligent than most of the people I know.
I like that people update their livejournals frequently so I can find out what's going on in their lives, but I'm horribly bored by the long entries about insignificant drivel.

I saw The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe on Thursday night at midnight with Brian, Heather, Ben and Jim. I loved it, but of course the book was superior. I think Peter and Susan should have been just a TAD bit older, because the actor for Peter still acted about the same when he was supposed to become all manly and everything. Hopefully Disney decides to make the other movies, because I want to see The Magician's Nephew made into a movie. : )

Hooray for Microsoft sending out less than 50% their reported volume for XBox360s. Stores that were expecting to receive 50 systems received 12. Yes, you heard me.... 12. All because Microsoft wanted to do a worldwide launch. There won't be normal stocks of systems until after Christmas... THAT was a smart move..
» Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter... very disappointing. If you haven't read the books then you'll probably like it. It went through the first 300 pages of the book in like ten minutes though. At least it kept the ending pretty much the same, although they took a few shortcuts getting there.

Just finished watching Blade: Trinity. It was my first time and I definitely enjoyed it. Ryan Reynolds is a funny guy, but the thing that made the movie hilarious to me was Blade smiling at the guy when he landed on the hood of his car. Priceless. I'm going to grab that frame later and make it an icon or something. We'll see.

You scored as Maximus. After his family was murdered by the evil emperor Commodus, the great Roman general Maximus went into hiding to avoid Commodus's assassins. He became a gladiator, hoping to dominate the colosseum in order to one day get the chance of killing Commodus. Maximus is valiant, courageous, and dedicated. He wants nothing more than the chance to avenge his family, but his temper often gets the better of him.

» Everyone hates me...Clayton said so
Me: Wow, I didn't realize you hated me so much. Deleting my previous comments and then banning me from your journal? That's kind of low, dude. Grow up a little. Now I remember why I didn't post for a few months. The idiotic drama on here is incredible.

Clayton: yeah, I think you'd be surprised at how many people out there hate you. it's amazing how I just keep finding more of them...

Me: Really? That's surprising. Why don't you list them? You could "twist the knife" a little more. No seriously, list the surprising number of people out there that hate me. You know, even with all of the things I've said to you, I don't remember ever trying to intentionally hurt you. You really shouldn't insult people, you might be "surprised" at how similarly people feel about you. Actually, although I believe there are people out there who "hate" me, I doubt that any of them really got to know me. I know I sometimes don't make a good impression, but when I make close friends, I make close friends for life. I'm comfortable with how people feel about me and I don't whine like a bitch when I don't get something I want. I'm not really sure why you hate me so much. Oh yes, I can think of a few reasons, but I just remember you started giving me shitty looks and ignoring me when Katie and I started dating. It tends to lessen my opinion of you.

Sooooo, the moral of the story is that everyone hates me. Clayton says so. If you hate me, here's your chance to tell me all the shitty things you think about me. YAY!

Oh, and just so we're clear: this is a drama entry, I realize. You see, I'm feeling an inordinate amount of "pissedoffness" right now. I want to beat the crap out of somebody.
